Postdoctoral Fellowship – Sexual assault and intimate partner violence against trans and gender diverse (TGD) persons

This position at Women’s College Research Institute, Women’s College Hospital, will provide a post-doctoral fellow with the opportunity to contribute to filling profound gaps in knowledge related to sexual assault and intimate partner violence against trans and gender diverse (TGD) persons. The position will be supervised by Dr. Janice Du Mont, Project Director of the trans-LINK Network (, which is scaling up nationally to expand its reach and impact. Sexual assault and intimate partner violence, prominent forms of gender-based violence globally, are pressing social, health, and human rights concerns that disproportionately impact TGD persons.

This fellowship opportunity provides funding for one year with possible renewal. Candidates are expected to: 

  • Lead and contribute as a team member to the development, design, and conduct of research/ongoing projects focused specifically on improving services and supports for TGD persons experiencing sexual assault and intimate partner violence (e.g., national survey of TGD persons, focus groups with service providers, development and evaluation of professional curricula); 
  • Collaborate closely with project team and the project director and organize regular meetings with the research team to share progress and insights, discuss findings, and refine the research objectives and methodologies; 
  • Coordinate, prepare for, and lead stakeholder meetings including creating agenda, preparing minutes, organizing logistics and obtaining and synthesizing key information for next steps; 
  • Assist in interpretation of results and preparation of research reports, articles for publication, protocols, letters of intent, and presentations related to sexual assault and intimate partner violence against TGD persons; 
  • Translate research findings into forms of communication that make science accessible to service providers (e.g., community of practice webinars), the public (e.g., rapid reports, videos, infographics), and policy makers,  (e.g., policy briefs); 
  • Meet project deadlines and milestones in a timely manner while maintaining the quality and accuracy of the work; 
  • Aid in coordinating day-to-day activities and training of any staff/students engaged in the research; and 
  • Assist with other project tasks as required. 


  • PhD or other doctoral degree required, preferably in the social sciences, public health, or health services research 
  • Familiarity with gender-based violence, issues relevant to TGD and/or 2SLGBTQ+ persons an asset 
  • Commitment to health equity and social justice 
  • Experience designing studies 
  • Experience with qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods research 
  • A record of peer-reviewed publications 
  • Exceptional organizational skills 
  • Exceptional writing and oral communication skills 
  • Excellent computer skills and software expertise 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
